about

Psychedelic Feedback (or "Phychadelic" before I learned how to spell) and Gold, Frankincense & Myrrh were the same band, dating back to 1986 (predating The Martyrs by about a year). PF and GFM were Jim, Chris and Mike (essentially the Martyrs before Paul joined the band). Jim could play the drums, but Chris and I were new to the guitar. And, obviously, singing. Jim and Chris were 14, I was 16, and though none of us was aware of No Wave, that's sort of what this cacophony sounds like, albeit without an ounce of aesthetic theory or avant-garde philosophy behind it. All in all, it's unlistenable, but still worth listening to, at least once. While the rest of Long Island was in a Heavy Metal swamp or New Wave wind tunnel, PF/GFM flailed in a hissing, shrieking, tuneless sump of their own making. What a mess. Recorded straight to the boombox in a basement in Old Bethpage, NY.
