about

Sometimes you can revisit an ill-conceived, misguided and uneven album 10 years down the road and discover the opposite. Pizazz didn't think much about their final album. Maybe it lacks the charm and cohesion of earlier works, but there is solid songwriting and inspired performances here. "How to Leave a Town" is easily in their Top Five, and it ranks as one of the great album closers. Paul Saur (Martyrs, Witner Twins) provides lyrics for "My Lucky Head". I hear "The Declining Years" as a clear transition piece from early Pizazz to their next project, Heirs to the McQueen Fortune. The rest of Pizazz might still not agree with me. You should download it anyway.

Pizazz were an unknown supergroup from Long Island in the mid-to-late 90s. Featuring Mike O'Shaughnessy of The Throats, Jim O'Shaughnessy of The Feebs and Jen Mackey of The Frustrations, Pizazz dominated the basement/bedroom music scene of eastern Nassau County in the mid-90's (fizzling out in the Pacific Northwest in 2003 with a collection of sub-par recordings). Ah, but those albums during the Clinton Administration!
